Welcome We invite you to learn about our campaign to re-introduce passenger rail service to key parts of our state. New Hampshire urgently needs a balanced, integrated, and socially and economically viable transportation infrastructure... and rail has a key part to play. A balanced emphasis on all transportation modes with well planned and strategically located trans-modal transportation centers is key to that realization. The New Hampshire Railroad Revitalization Association (NHRRA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organization. We are dedicated to the preservation and revitalization of Northern New England's historic rail infrastructure as a viable component of its 21st century transportation system. Our current project, which is likely to bring the most benefit to the most people, is commuter rail service between Boston and the communities of Nashua, Merrimack, Bedford, Manchester, Hooksett and Concord. We aim for this service to be fully operational by 2010. We support Nashua Regional Planning Commission and the Nashua Commuter Rail Advisory Committee in their efforts to return passenger rail from Boston to Nashua, however pressure for further extension of the service to Manchester and Concord needs to begin now and should be a natural next-step after completion of the Nashua extension from Lowell. NHRRA is proud to announce... Former Presidential Candidate to Highlight Passenger Rail Discussion in NH Former U.S. Presidential candidate and Massachusetts Governor Michael S. Dukakis will be the keynote speaker for an action-oriented discussion about the economic impacts of passenger rail in New Hampshire and New England. The event will focus on the economic justification for rail in New Hampshire and how the New England region will work together to rebuild key strategic routes to remain competitive both globally and within the US. Also, New Hampshire's commitment to leadership in regional rail infrastructure planning will be discussed, the new NH Capitol Corridor project, an exciting plan to return passenger rail from Concord, N.H., to Boston, and other regional rail initiatives will be discussed. Did You Know? According to the NH Department of Transport, approximately 25% of New Hampshire residents of driving age do not drive. That percentage is growing. The state's ten year transportation plan for 2007 through 2016 indicates that spending on transit (i.e. non-highway) projects will make up just about 0.3%, or $1.2 million out of a total spend of $2 billion over the period. |
